Adrian Smith and Mike Flood Win Respective Races for U.S. House

Tuesday’s Nebraska Primary Election Results Show Smith and Flood Advancing to November General Election

With 100% of precincts reporting, Adrian Smith and Mike Flood have emerged victorious in their respective races for Nebraska’s 3rd and 1st Congressional Districts.

Incumbent Adrian Smith, a Republican, has secured the nomination for the 3rd Congressional District. He defeated fellow Republican candidates Mike Calhoun, Steve Kuehl, and Thad Jablonski. Smith will face Democrat Dan Wik in the November general election.

In the 1st Congressional District, Republican Mike Flood has won the nomination, defeating fellow Republican candidates Jeff Fortenberry, Mike McGinnis, and Patty PansingBrooks. Flood will face Democrat Patty PansingBrooks again in the November general election. PansingBrooks previously lost to Flood in a special election for the seat in June 2023.

Both Smith and Flood expressed gratitude to their supporters and pledged to continue working hard in their respective districts. Smith, who has served in the House since 2007, said he looks forward to continuing to fight for Nebraska's values in Washington D.C. Flood, a former state senator appointed to the seat in July 2022, said he is focused on representing the people of Nebraska's 1st District and working to improve their lives.

The general election will be held on November 8, 2023. Voters will have the opportunity to choose between Smith and Wik in the 3rd Congressional District and between Flood and PansingBrooks in the 1st Congressional District.
