Giants Pitcher Takes No-Hitter into Ninth Inning Against Arizona Diamondbacks

Alex Cobb's bid for a no-hitter was broken up with one out in the ninth inning

San Francisco Giants pitcher Alex Cobb took a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night before Geraldo Perdomo singled with one out to break it up.

Cobb, who was making his second start of the season, retired the first 26 batters he faced before Perdomo's single to right field.

Cobb threw 103 pitches in his outing, striking out 11 batters and walking two.

He was pulled from the game after Perdomo's single, and reliever Camilo Doval came on to finish off the 5-0 victory for the Giants.

It was Cobb's first career no-hit bid, and the Giants' first since Chris Heston threw a no-hitter against the New York Mets in 2015.

The Diamondbacks have now been no-hit three times in their history, with the other two coming against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014 and the Chicago Cubs in 2016.

Perdomo's single was the only hit the Diamondbacks had all night.

They were held hitless by Cobb and three Giants relievers, and they struck out a combined 16 times.

The Giants, meanwhile, scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Brandon Belt, a two-run double by Thairo Estrada, and an RBI single by Mike Yastrzemski.

The win was the Giants' fourth in a row, and it moved them to 10-7 on the season.

The Diamondbacks, meanwhile, have lost four straight and are now 6-11 on the season.

The two teams will face off again on Thursday night in the second game of their three-game series.
