Cynthia Moxley, 93, of Boonville, NY, passed away on January 12, 2024, surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was passionate about education and beloved by so many. She was born in Boonville, NY on March 28, 1951, to William and Mary Roberts. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Michael. Cynthia is survived by her children, Micah Moxley and his partner, Jennifer, and Katrina Moxley and her partner, Joseph. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, and Michael.

A Long Life of Service to Others

Cynthia was a dedicated and compassionate woman who spent her life serving others. After graduating from Boonville High School in 1969, she received her Bachelor's degree in social sciences from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She then went on to earn her Master's degree from Syracuse University. Cynthia spent over 30 years as an educator at Boonville High School, where she taught history and social sciences.

Cynthia's passion for education extended beyond the classroom. She was a member of the New York State Board of Regents from 2005 to 2015 and served as its president from 2011 to 2013. She was also actively involved in the National Education Association and the New York State United Teachers.

Actively Involved in Church and Community

Cynthia was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Church in Boonville, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. She was also involved in various community organizations, including the Boonville Lions Club and the Boonville Historical Society.

Cynthia will be remembered for her dedication to education and her compassionate spirit. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements:

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 18th, from 4 to 7 pm at the Boonville Funeral Home, 153 Main Street, Boonville, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 19th, at 11 am at St. Joseph's Church, 121 Charles Street, Boonville, NY. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cynthia's memory to the Boonville Fire Department, 8829 Turin Road, Boonville, NY 13309. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
