"I Never See Him Smile Anymore": Former Pro Unrecognizes Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham
Bellingham's Transformation Under Ancelotti
Former professional footballer Dietmar Hamann has expressed his concerns over the transformation of Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid. Hamann believes that Bellingham has lost his spark and joy for the game under the management of Carlo Ancelotti.
Since joining Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023, Bellingham has struggled to find his feet in the Spanish capital. The England international has made 12 appearances for the La Liga giants but has yet to score or provide an assist.
Hamann, who played for Liverpool and Manchester City during his career, has been critical of Ancelotti's handling of Bellingham. He believes that the Italian manager has stifled the young midfielder's creativity and freedom of expression.
A Shadow of His Former Self
"I don't recognize the Jude Bellingham that I saw at Borussia Dortmund anymore," Hamann said. "He was a player who was always smiling, always full of energy. But now, he looks like a shadow of his former self."
"I think Ancelotti has been too cautious with him," Hamann continued. "He's been playing him in a very disciplined role, and it's not allowing him to express himself. Bellingham is a player who needs to be given freedom to roam and create."
Hamann's comments come after Bellingham was left out of Real Madrid's starting lineup for their recent Champions League match against Manchester City. The decision was met with surprise by many, given Bellingham's status as one of the most highly-rated young players in the world.
Ancelotti Defends His Decision
Ancelotti has defended his decision to leave Bellingham out of the team, insisting that the midfielder is still adapting to life at Real Madrid.
"Jude is a great player, but he's still young," Ancelotti said. "He needs time to adjust to our system of play and to the demands of playing for a club like Real Madrid."
"I have no doubt that Jude will become a key player for us in the future," Ancelotti added. "But for now, I think it's important to be patient with him and to allow him to develop at his own pace."
Bellingham's Future at Real Madrid
It remains to be seen how Bellingham will respond to Ancelotti's comments. The midfielder is still only 20 years old, and he has plenty of time to fulfill his potential.
However, if Bellingham continues to struggle to find his feet at Real Madrid, it is possible that he could leave the club in search of a fresh start.
Bellingham has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, and the Reds could be tempted to make a bid for the England international if he becomes available.
For now, though, Bellingham remains a Real Madrid player. It will be interesting to see how his career progresses under Ancelotti, and whether he can rediscover the form that made him one of the most sought-after young players in the world.
