Liveticker: Dortmund gegen Sturm Graz | BVB-Spiel in der Champions League live
BVB meets the Champions League winner
The Bundesliga season has ended and Borussia Dortmund secured second place. We are now gradually approaching the end of the summer break: At the end of August, the new Bundesliga season will begin. Yet, for the Black and Yellows, the season kicks off a week earlier – and that under the motto "The Westfalen Pokal makes history"!
The reason for the early start: After VfL Wolfsburg bowed out of the DFB Cup in the first round in the past two years, BVB will meet the Champions League winner, Sturm Graz, for the first competitive match of the season, this Tuesday, July 19, 2022, from 8:15 p.m. (kick-off at 8:45 p.m.).
Teams aim to stay consistent
At the start of the new European campaign, both teams will head into the match with a series of successful results. BVB remained undefeated in the last four test matches, against Valencia CF (3:1), Villarreal CF (2:0), FC Barcelona (2:2) and Athletic Club (2:0), while FC Sturm Graz celebrated four wins from four games, most recently 2-1 against Hungarian first division side Puskás Akadémia.
The Austrians are currently in the middle of their Bundesliga season and are doing well: two wins from three games mean the Sky Blues are third in the table. The Black and Yellows will therefore face a competitive opponent on Tuesday night – and that in front of a sold-out crowd of 81,365 spectators.
