Alysha Newman, Pole Vaulting Pro, Qualifies for 4th Diamond League Final

Second Place Finish in Zurich Lands Canadian Vaulter a Spot

Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman has secured her place in the fourth Diamond League final after an impressive second-place finish at the Weltklasse Zurich meet in Switzerland.

Newman, a two-time Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion, cleared 4.60 meters in Zurich, just 10 centimeters behind the winner, Olympic champion Katie Nageotte of the United States.

This result marks Newman's second consecutive podium finish in the Diamond League this season, following her victory at the Oslo Bislett Games in June.

A Season of Success

Newman's performance in Zurich is a testament to her consistent success throughout the 2023 season. She has won four of the six Diamond League meets she has competed in so far and currently ranks second in the overall standings.

The Canadian vaulter has also set a new personal best of 4.82 meters this year, placing her among the top pole vaulters in the world. Her impressive form has earned her a place among the favorites for a medal at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Diamond League Finals

The Diamond League Finals will be held in Zurich on September 7-8 and will feature the top eight athletes in each event. Newman's qualification for the final means she has a chance to add to her collection of Diamond League titles.

The Canadian vaulter has won the Diamond League trophy twice before, in 2018 and 2019. A victory in Zurich would make her the first Canadian woman to win the pole vault Diamond League title three times.

Road to Paris 2024

Newman's success in the Diamond League is a positive sign for her preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The Canadian vaulter is one of the top contenders for a medal in Paris and will be looking to improve on her sixth-place finish in Tokyo.
