Robert F. Kennedy, the Democratic presidential candidate and brother of slain President John F. Kennedy, has been assassinated in Los Angeles, the latest victim in a string of political violence that has cast a dark shadow over the United States.
Kennedy was shot and killed as he campaigned at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. He was rushed to the Central Receiving Hospital, where he died shortly after midnight.
The assassin, identified as Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, a 24-year-old Jordanian immigrant, was immediately arrested and charged with murder.
Kennedy's death has sent shockwaves through the United States, already reeling from the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and JFK.
