Rolfes' offensive focus and Xhaka's warning before Anfield: "Then it will be very difficult"
Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director makes it clear: "We need to score goals abroad"
Bayer Leverkusen will face FC Porto in the last sixteen of the Champions League and know that they have to improve away from home in order to progress.
"It's clear that we have to score abroad"
Rolfes made it clear that Leverkusen will have to score in Porto in order to have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals. "It's clear that we have to score abroad," he said. "We know that it will be very difficult, but we are confident that we can do it."
Leverkusen have only scored once in their last four away games in the Champions League, but Rolfes believes that they can improve their record in front of goal.
Xhaka: "We have to be very careful"
Granit Xhaka, who will captain Leverkusen in the absence of suspended Lukas Hradecky, echoed Rolfes' comments and warned his team-mates that they will have to be at their best in Porto.
"We have to be very careful," said Xhaka. "Porto are a very good team and they will be very dangerous at home. We need to be focused and disciplined if we want to get a result."
Leverkusen will be without several key players for the first leg against Porto, including Hradecky, Patrik Schick and Exequiel Palacios.
"We have to believe in ourselves"
Despite the absentees, Xhaka is confident that Leverkusen can get a positive result in Porto.
"We have to believe in ourselves," he said. "We know that it will be difficult, but we are a good team and we can achieve anything if we play to our potential."
The first leg of the last sixteen tie between Porto and Leverkusen will take place on Wednesday, February 22.
